To protect and to serve..a complete fallacy.

We often hear the words “To protect and to serve” whenever we hear anyone speaking about the role of police officers.  Unfortunately, those words are a complete fallacy.  Not only is that notion a fallacy, but the supreme court has ruled that the police have no legal duty to protect individuals and stated the responsibility of police as follows:

“Police do not have a duty to protect you as an individual, but to protect society as a whole.”

Here are some well-known court rulings that basically confirm what the supreme court has mentioned above:

Castle Rock v. Gonzales
Barillari v. City of Milwaukee
Bowers v. DeVito
DeShaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services
Ford v. Town of Grafton
Warren v. District of Columbia
Riss v. New York
Lynch v. North Carolina Department of Justice

So in the end, we are responsible for protecting ourselves and our families.  Arm yourself and educate those around you!
