As someone who holds the right to self defense in the highest regard, I often wonder why it is that self defense advocates complain about the politicians stripping away our rights, but often times won’t do their best to educate the uninformed. I also submit that the right to self defense protects ALL of our other freedoms and is EXTREMELY important to preserve liberty for free people.
Sure pro-gun legislation is great for gun owners, but it doesn’t do much to reach out and let people know all about our cause; which is the advancement of gun rights.
One must only need to look at the U.S. Constitution to understand that gun control is unconstitutional:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Furthermore my state constitution of Pennsylvania says:
The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.
I propose that we really need to start hitting the streets and promoting the ideals of gun rights on our own with reasoning, facts and data. Complaining to like-minded individuals about politicians taking away our rights does nothing more than to keep allowing the oppression from the government. Educational outreach towards the otherwise uninformed and/or misinformed is the best way to push forward our cause.
If we want to push our goals forward (mine is constitutional carry), then we need to get the consent of people. Ramming legislation through whether it be done under Democratic of Republican control, doesn’t really open the minds of people, but rather keeps them dead set in their ways of opposing things because of what they hear from the otherwise uninformed/misinformed. Politicians can make legislation turn into law and could also repeal legislation which I feel could potentially lead to a further erosion of our right to self defense.
Now, I don’t submit that this will be an easy task, because it won’t be, but it is one that MUST be continuously embraced and then practiced often.
It does not take a majority to prevail… but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men. – Samuel Adams
Educate and inform the whole mass of the people…they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty. – Thomas Jefferson
Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it. – Thomas Paine
Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty. – Thomas Jefferson
