“No-Ride List” for Trains

Much like 9/11, the official story surrounding the circumstances of Osama Bin Laden’s death do not the smell test of anyone who is remotely connected to reality. This did not, however, stop the enactment of the Patriot Act or the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Much like all self serving politicians, Sen Schumer has proposed a ‘no-ride list’ for trains based on “intelligence gleaned from the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound”.

It’s all for the safety of the public they tell us.

No debate will ever take place on why ‘terrorists’ want to target trains. That would be far too hard and require politicians to admit that maybe the American Government’s foreign policy may be producing blowback. The public are just expected to believe what the people in power tell us and that this is required in order to keep us safe. You don’t have to look far to see what a list like this will eventually morph into…..

If you look further back though, you can see how these policies will really end up…….

Passports were originally formal documents that asked that the bearer was allowed free and unhindered travel in foreign lands. It was a reciprocal agreements between many Governments. You let my citizens freely move through your lands, and I will let your citizens move freely through mine. What started off as a seemingly good idea morphed into a document that is required to move unhindered out of a persons native country.

Will there soon be a ‘no-walk list’? Or perhaps a ‘no-buy list’? After all, we can’t be allowing suspected terrorists from walking to Walmart to get supplies for whatever nefarious plot they have in mind…..

Lists of thes type all start off as people having to be put on them in order to be prohibited from an action and end up that everybody is on them and you have to pass through bureaucratic red tape in order to be allowed to do whatever activity you are barred from doing.

This whole issue of  ‘lists’ is the anti-thesis of a free society and is merely addressing a symptom of a much larger disease.

As more and more lists are compiled by Governments for whatever reasons, the power is slowly taken from the citizens and given to faceless apparatchiks. We are already at the point of “Papiere, Bitte” for many activities we do. How much more will we take before we seize back the power that was stolen from us?
